Our 2010 exam included many comments in our Document Of Resolution regarding loan quality reporting, included a whole section on indirect dealer reporting. After that exam we started working with Silverback. After implementing the Silverback system to segregate the indirect portfolio I provided the Examiners with the following: Total Outstanding Loans by Dealer, Loans By Credit Quality by Dealer, Delinquency by Dealer, Loan count by Term per Dealer, and Average Credit score by Dealer. I was also able to stratify the rest of the loan portfolio by product and give them a breakdown of credit score ranges per segment, delinquency per segment, and terms per segment. Needless to say when the NCUA Examiners finished reviewing our Silverback reports they had very few questions about our portfolio or the quality of the loans.
When my CEO and I saw the Demo of this system in 2010, we recognized the value of this type of reporting. It was not difficult to provide Silverback the data they needed and we received simple reporting that helps us make good decisions. Providing the examiners with this kind of in depth reporting also simplified our examination and proves that we understand our loan quality in all portfolios. Our 2011 exam was much better and our examiners were very satisfied. As I continue to use the system and we populate with more data, this will also be a great tool to monitor and manage risk in our portfolios.
